Behavioral Health Policy Update
On Nov. 6, 2019, the NC General Assembly approved Session Law 2019-240 Senate Bill 537. The session law amended the licensure names for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) to Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA).
The session law also amended the certification name for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). NC Medicaid behavioral health clinical coverage policies (CCP) that have been amended to comply with Session Law 2019-204 Senate Bill 537 are as follows:
- CCP 8A-1- Assertive Community Treatment (Act) Program
- CCP 8A-6 - Community Support Team (CST)
- CCP 8B - Inpatient Behavioral Health Services
- CCP 8L - Mental Health/Substance Abuse Targeted Case Management
Amended policies will post to the NC Medicaid Clinical Coverage Policies website with an effective date of Oct. 1, 2020.
