New Feature Allows OA to Change Account Name
Effective Feb. 10, 2019, a new feature in NCTracks allows an office administrator (OA) to change the account name associated with a National Provider Identifier (NPI). The account name appears in the dropdown box of the secure NCTracks provider portal when performing an inquiry, such as the verify recipient page, and adding or updating information on the provider record.
The initial account name is automatically assigned by NCTracks to be the last name of the office administrator. Historically the account name could not be modified, which presented a challenge when there was a change in office administrator.
The new feature to change account name is available using the user maintenance page of the secure provider portal. To change the account name, the current office administrator performs a search on their NCID and the system will return the corresponding results in the search results section of the page. Clicking on the current office administrator user ID (NCID) in the search results will take the user to the edit user page. The account name field can be changed by typing a new name in the field and clicking the save button.
Note that this will change the name that appears in the account name dropdown box, but it does not affect the actual name of the office administrator associated with the NCID. Consequently, the new account name cannot be used as a search criterion for last name on the user maintenance page.
This new feature can only be used by the office administrator associated with an NPI.
