Attention: Prescribers and Pharmacists Polyethylene Glycol 3350 OTC Products Now Covered

As announced in the December 2018 Pharmacy Newsletter, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially withdrawn approval for certain prescription (legend) PEG-3350 products that have been deemed to have no ‘meaningful difference’ with available over the counter (OTC) products.

PEG 3350 OTC products are now covered by NC Medicaid for claims with dates of service on or after December 1, 2018 when the product has a valid CMS rebate agreement on file and is prescribed for the beneficiary by a NC Medicaid enrolled provider. These pharmacy claims can be processed electronically through the point of sale (POS) system.
